Privacy policy
In short: My Notebooks does not collect, store on its own servers or share any of your data. Your notebooks stay on your device and in your iCloud. The photo used to read a text is discarded.
1. What the app stores
Notebooks and pages, with names, descriptions, years, texts, tags, dates, the compressed copies of the photos you attach to pages and your app preferences. This data stays on your device. The app has no server, asks for no account or login, and uses no ads, analytics or tracking.
2. Sync with iCloud
If you use iCloud, your notebooks sync across your devices through CloudKit, in the private space of your Apple Account. The developer has no access to that content. Storage in iCloud follows Apple's policy.
3. Reading the text from a photo
When you use text reading, the photo (from the camera or the library) stays only in the device's memory, the text is recognized and added to the page content, and the photo is discarded. A photo used only to read text is not stored. Recognition happens on the device itself, with the system feature (Vision): no internet is needed and nothing is sent to anyone. The recognized text becomes part of the page, like any text you type, and follows the rules of items 1 and 2.
4. System permissions
- Camera (iPhone and iPad). To photograph pages, attach photos and read text. The camera is only used while the capture screen is open. The Mac does not use the camera.
- Photos. To choose page photos, covers and photos to read text from. The app keeps a compressed copy of the photos you attach; the originals, in your library, are never changed.
- Files. To import a backup file, the app uses the system file picker and reads only the file you choose.
- Face ID or Touch ID. For the optional app lock. The app never receives or stores biometric data: the system does the verification.
You can revoke any permission at any time in your device's settings.
5. Export and import (.mynotebooks file)
You can export all your notebooks to a .mynotebooks file. It contains your notebooks, pages, texts and photos, and it is saved or shared wherever you choose; the app does not send it anywhere. Keep it as carefully as you would your own notes. When importing, the app only reads the file you open.
6. What the app does not do
- It shows no ads and uses no analytics or tracking tools.
- It asks for no login and creates no account.
- It does not access your location, your contacts or other apps.
- It does not sell or share data with third parties, because it collects none.
7. Deleting your data
Deleting a notebook also removes its pages from the app and from iCloud. Uninstalling the app removes the local data. Original photos in your library are not changed. Exported files stay wherever you saved them.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, of any age.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top will be updated.
